Parent Visa
The parent visa falls under the family visa category and is categorized into two main types: one that can be applied for while you are inside Australia, and the other that is applicable when you are outside of Australia.
The primary parent visa subclasses include:
- Parent Visa (Subclass 103): This visa is intended for parents who have settled in Australia and have a child who has Australian citizenship, permanent residency, or qualifying New Zealand citizenship. The Subclass 103 visa is a permanent option that requires child sponsorship.
- Contributory Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 173) and Contributory Parent (Permanent) Visa (Subclass 143): Contributory parent visas. The Subclass 173 visa is a short-term solution that allows parents to stay in Australia for up to two years. The Subclass 143 visa provides permanent residency but requires more application costs and donations than the Subclass 103 visa.
- Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 884) and Contributory Aged Parent (Permanent) Visa (Subclass 864): These visas, like the contributory parent visas, are specifically for elderly parents. Subclass 884 visas are temporary, but Subclass 864 visas are permanent.
- Aged Parent Visa (Subclass 804): For parents who are qualified for the Australian Age Pension and have a child who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.
- Parent Visa (Subclass 103): Queue Initiative: This initiative allows applicants who are waiting for the processing of their Subclass 103 Parent Visa application to apply for a Subclass 173 Contributory Parent (Temporary) Visa.
