Frequently Asked Questions About Job Ready Employment (JRE)

Frequently Asked Questions About Job Ready Employment (JRE)

1. What is Job Ready Employment (JRE)?

Job Ready Employment (JRE) is the first step in the Job Ready Program (JRP) designed by Trades Recognition Australia (TRA). This stage confirms your eligibility, employment arrangements, and any claims for Prior Employment (PE). It allows you to develop essential skills for working in an Australian workplace.

2. What are the eligibility requirements for JRE?

To apply for JRE, you must meet the following:

  • A valid Positive Skills Assessment (PSA) for your nominated occupation.
  • A current passport.
  • Submission of your JRE application within the validity period of your PSA (3 years from issuance).
  • Your employment must provide sufficient opportunities to develop skills and comply with Australian workplace laws.

3. What documents are needed for a JRE application?

Your JRE application must include:

  • A completed Employment Verification Report (EVR) signed by your employer or supervisor.
  • Three weeks of pay evidence from your employer.
  • A copy of your passport if it differs from the one submitted during PSA.
  • Documentation to address any inconsistencies in your name across submitted documents.

4. What is an Employment Verification Report (EVR)?

The EVR is a key document to verify your employment. It includes:

  • Details of tasks and duties aligned with your nominated occupation.
  • Verification of your skill level and access to industry-standard tools.
  • A signature from your employer or supervisor.

Tip: Ensure you use the latest EVR version available on the TRA website.

5. Can I claim prior employment in my JRE application?

Yes, you can claim up to 3 months of prior unbroken paid employment, provided:

  • It was in your nominated occupation.
  • It was completed within 3 months immediately before applying for JRE.
  • It was with your first registered employer for JRE.

You must submit three weeks of pay evidence to support your claim.

6. What are the requirements for eligible employment under JRE?

Your employment must:

  • Align with your nominated occupation and skill level.
  • Be under an employer-employee arrangement, with payslips and superannuation contributions provided.
  • Comply with Australian workplace relations laws.
  • Be registered and approved by TRA.

7. Can subcontractor work be counted towards JRE?

Subcontractor work is eligible if:

  • It meets the employment eligibility criteria.
  • You complete at least 6 months of full-time equivalent work with a single contractor.
  • Your contractor agrees to sign your EVR and Skills Progress Report (SPR).

8. How is the JRE Start Date determined?

Your JRE Start Date is the date you submit your JRE application via the TRA Online Portal unless adjusted by TRA for:

  • Approved Prior Employment claims.
  • Receipt of all decision-ready documents.

9. What is the duration of the JRE step?

The JRE step requires at least 6 months of full-time equivalent employment. The entire Job Ready Program (JRP) cannot be completed in less than 12 calendar months.

10. What evidence is needed to verify employment?

TRA may request additional documents, including:

  • Pay slips, contracts, or bank statements showing salary deposits.
  • Superannuation records or tax documents (e.g., tax returns).
Ensure you monitor your registered email for any requests from TRA.

11. What is a Skills Progress Report (SPR)?

An SPR is a record of the skills and tasks you have developed during employment. TRA requires SPRs:

  • After working 6 months with an employer.
  • Before ending employment with a registered employer.
  • When specifically requested.

The SPR must be signed by your employer or supervisor.
